Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has refused to blame goalkeeper Brandon Petersen for their shock MTN8 elimination.
Amakhosi made a two-year hiatus return to the Wafa Wafa competition but were send crashing out in the first round at the hands of Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Sunday night.
It was Petersen’s blunder in the 53rd minute that allowed Khulekani Shezi to beat the shotstopper at his near post and into the back of the net.
Chiefs’ exit means that the 15-time Wafa Wafa winners will have to wait for yet another season to capture the trophy that has eluded them since the 2014/15 campaign.
Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, Da Cruz admitted that indeed his goalkeeper missed the ball but did not want to crucify him for the defeat.
“I want to watch again the goal because I didn’t watch it,” Da Cruz said via his translator.
“The player [Petersen] missed his cross and when we lose, it’s all the team that lose.
“I don’t want to say we lose because of one player.”
