After his exit from Orlando Pirates, Fortune Makaringe has explained his decision to join Cape Town City, and why he chose the Citizens.
The 31-year-old midfielder who started his professional career at Maritzburg United, spent five years with the Buccaneers, playing in 149 games in all competitions.
Speaking to the media ahead of City’s MTN8 game against Sekhukhune United, Makaringe was asked about joining City, and being greeted by terrible wet and cold weather over the last month.
“Well, to be honest with you this was a decision that had a lot of factors in it,” Makaringe said.
“And especially I needed that tranquility and change of scenery.
“So the serenity that I’m getting here, it is the most important thing that I actually needed in my life. So the weather is least of my problems.”
Makaringe went on to explain that the environnment at City is what he was looking for.
“For me, football is more than just kicking the ball outside during life and how I approach my football life it’s the same way I approach my personal life,” he continued.
“So for me, it’s more about creating good relationships, which is something that I’ve found here at home.
“The Citizens are very family-orientated team and for me, it becomes even easier because we are more about fighting for one another and living for one another as brothers and that for me is why I’m here.
When asked about his highlights at Pirates, Makaringe remained philosophical.
“My highlight of my time at Pirates was everything, from day one till the last day,” he replied.
“And my current highlight is being here as a Citizen.”
City are the away team against Babina Noko as both sides look to seal a semi-final berth at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, August 10.
