Yanga Secure Kariakoo Derby Bragging Rights In Davids Debut

Young Africans secured a place in the Community Shield final after a 1-0 win over Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC in their Kariakoo Derby on Thursday evening.

In a game that marked Fadlu David’s competitive debut for the Simba since being appointed as head coach, it was a lively display but the experience of their fierce rivals counted in their favour.

DR Congo international midfielder Maxi Nzengeli scored the only goal of the game in the opening half and it was enough to secure the bragging rights in the Derby at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and a place in the final.

Yanga will now face Azam this weekend, the side who pipped Simba to the league runners-up position and the CAF Champions League spot last season.

Azam beat Coastal Union 5-2 to secure their spot in the final at the same venue on Sunday.

It’s now another opportunity for Miguel Gamondi to get his hands on silverware after securing a domestic double in his first season at the club.
