Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha reckons that his teammates need to break their hoodoo duck against Stellenbosch FC in this weekend’s MTN8 final.
The clubs meet at a sold-out Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday both looking to make respective history for themselves. Pirates are looking to bag a consecutive hat-trick of Wafa Wafa titles while Stellies are hoping to win it for the first time. Last season, Stellies gave Pirates trouble especially in the league beating them both home and away.
Mbatha spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 174 about this, saying the Buccaneers do want to get one over Stellies however do not view the final as a grudge game.
“Yeah, they’re a very strong team,” Mbatha told iDiski Times.
“They’re not an easy team to play against. I could say that they are also a team that catches you by surprise and they win most of their games. So, I think it’s a game that’s going to be nice also for us.
“It’s going to be challenging and I wouldn’t say that we have a grudge or something, but it’s a game where we should tell ourselves that we haven’t won a game with them for the past season.
“So, I think it’s a game where we should tell ourselves that we have to get the positive results because we didn’t get that when we were playing them.”
