Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo hailed Nasreddine Nabi’s game plans in the final and semi-final enroute to the Nedbank Cup title.
Amakhosi finally lifted their first piece of silverware after beating bitter rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Soweto Derby to claim their record-extending 14th title.
Despite struggling in the league, Chiefs can look back at a glorious cup run, beating Free Agents, Chippa United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates.
It was Nabi’s first trophy in his first season in South Africa, and Khumalo showered the coach with flowers after the final whistle.
“I think the last derby and the Sundowns game both combined the coach came with a better plan,” he said on SABC1.
“Even if you check the Sundowns game after they equalised, the boys lifted their performance and it’s exactly what happened today.
“When the first half started, five minutes into the game if I’m not mistaken the coach said that this is no longer the same Chiefs as last week’s.
“It was true because I mean you can tell that the boys dug deep. They really wanted this and I told you that it’s all about those fans, if they can put a smile on their faces.
“And the only person that I’m happy for now is the chairman. I know Dr Motaung is happy wherever he is because he’s been dying to have a trophy at Naturena.
“It’s nice in the country (laughs).”
