Kaizer Jr. Elated After First Trophy As Sporting Director

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director has paid homage to his father, the Chairman of the club, Kaizer Motaung Snr. the technical team and the squad for a unique ‘once in a life time’ moment.

Chiefs have won their first trophy since his appointment as Sporting Director of the club in July 2021 where they were six seasons without a trophy and he embarked on a new vision, that wasn’t short of disappointments in the past four years.

However, Nasreddine Nabi, albeit after a poor league campaign, has delivered the Nedbank Cup, their first silverware since winning the league in the 2014/15 season.

He was headhunted from ASFAR by Motaung Jnr and after securing the title, the ‘SD’ could not hold back the emotion which overcame the players, technical staff and everyone involved with Amakhosi.

“I want to give thank you to Nedbank, they have been an amazing sponsor over the years, I think everyone can see how they always captured the imagination and dreams of people, so today has been a dream for us, we’re humbled and blessed to celebrate with the people we have in the stadium,” Motaung Jnr. said to SuperSport TV.

“We blessed to have these fans and the Chairman we have, the board of directors, I just feel very blessed and honoured. I can’t put it into words, today was one of the most special days of my life.

“I know the birth of my children will be the most specials days, but this one it was a very unique, once in a lifetime moment and I am very privileged to be here with the players, technical staff and everyone involved in the club.”

Reflecting on his first-ever trophy within his role at the club, which is crucial in leading the future, with coaching appointments and leading the recruitment of talent, he admits it’s not been easy.

“It’s very [special], we had a plan when I first began, we knew we wanted a bit of a younger squad, we knew we’d take a bit of a hit to get that, and to give young players minutes in a big team, we took several hits,” he explained.

“We’re still in a process. Our youth team managed a league trophy after nine years, so there’s a plan, a process but also at the same time, we’re very fortunate to have the Chairman we do have, with the vision he has for the club, lightyears ahead of everyone and still right now, we tap into his wisdom with everything we do.”
