Jali Picks His Nedbank Cup POTT

Nedbank Cup ambassador Andile Jali has named Durban City goalkeeper Darren Keet as his Player of the Tournament because of how the veteran keeper carried his side during the campaign.

The curtain will close on this season’s tournament with the final between Keet’s City and TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The 36-year-old has been a star for his side first helping them to overcome Chippa United 3-2 on penalties in the first round, making three saves in the shootout.

In the Last 16 round the KwaZulu-Natal based outfit were 2-0 winners on penalties against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City who missed all their four spot-kicks.

In the quarter-finals Pitso Dladla’s men drew with Golden Arrows 1-1 in 120 minutes and went on to advance 5-4 in another shootout after Keet denied Ayanda Jiyane’s kick.

And in the semi-final he kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 defeat of Casric Stars who had overcome Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu in previous rounds.

Speaking to iDiski Times on the side of the Cup final pre-match press conference Jali said Keet has been more consistent than other players in the competition.

“That one I said it even last time in one of my  interviews,” said Jali.

“I said the same thing that they’ll give it to someone, Darren Keet is the one. He’s been doing good for that team.

“In other teams they [players] were doing well in one game, the other game is another player. No one was consistent in doing the same thing that the goalkeeper was doing.”
