Nabi Reflects On Chiefs Start And Reveals Major Target

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi feels they should have more points in the league based on their performances and revealed his ‘dream’ for the rest of the season.

In Nabi’s debut season, there’s been a mixed reception despite notable changes in playing style they sit in sixth place with 25 points after 17 games.

Seven wins, four draws, and six defeats, 20 goals scored, 19 conceded – it hardly gets pulses races for the most of the passionate supporters of Amakhosi, but he duly notes, it’s been a season of fine margins.

“In terms of results, we believe we could have done better, we feel there have been points that we dropped that were in our hands,” Nabi said.

“We could have won more points until now – some games we felt were in our control we could have done better, and we didn’t end up with three points. In terms of points, we should have had more than we have now.”

A team in transition, looking to find itself under the leadership of the Tunisian-Belgian coach, who reaffirmed his commitment to the task, when he revealed last week he rejected the advances of his national team to remain at Amakhosi.

“About the project, there’s a lot of things, we need to build a culture into the team, tactical culture, the behaviour every day, on and off the field. As well, if there’s an opportunity in the transfer window, get the opportunity to strengthen the team,” he added before suggesting he doesn’t have the tools to fulfil his preferred game model.

“We feel we’re in the right way, even if we’re not consistent as we feel we need a left-back who is a specialist in his position. [Bradley Cross] plays amazingly well but it’s someone that we just tried to see how he does, overall, we believe that going to the end of the season, we’re in the right space with the right ingredients to do something good.

“Honestly… majority of games, I choose to play my game model, offensively, high line, I don’t have all the material yet for this type of football, some people say ah ah ah, play the pass, helicopter football, then the people kill you. But thank God, I don’t go on social media, I would probably kill myself.

“I’m consistent in what I’m saying [and how I want to play], generally I want to paint a picture of offensive football, this is in project, in this season, the dream is to qualify for CAF, it won’t be easy, but I want to put this in my players.

“They have the capacity, the difference is not big, they need confidence, the same for Nedbank Cup, we will push and Inshallah…[maybe win it].”
