Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed the massive weight of expectations to provide happiness to millions of the club’s supporters.
Chiefs take on Chippa United at FNB Stadium for a place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup, which is their last realistic shot at silverware in his debut season.
Amidst a decade of trophy dought he’s walked into, there’s been naturally the same level of inconsistency in results that has plagued the club in years gone by – but a different level of support from his recent coaching counterparts.
After losing the Soweto Derby, the 1-0 win over Stellenbosch brought joy and ecstasy to the Amakhosi faithful and hierarchy, notably Bobby Motaung on live television and Nabi addressed this rollercoaster journey of emotions with one of the most supported clubs in Africa.
“It’s true that we have noticed the joy and happiness that this club brings to millions of fans – to all around South Africa, it’s incredible, it’s unbelievable,” Nabi said.

“That’s why there’s no sleep, when there’s not a good result, you feel responsibile for millions of people around the country. We are doing everything to build a very strong team that will give the joy we saw last Friday, consistently…
“[Joy] throughout the year, throughout the competition that we’re going to play and we don’t want to play for a result that comes today and maybe comes back a month or two months – we want to the responsibility of building a very good team that will bring joy week in week out.”
