Ex-Chiefs Star Wins First Title In Europe

Kaizer Chiefs academy product Siyabonga Ngezana won the Romanian Liga I title with FCSB, helping the record champions to their first league trophy in nine years.

Ngezana, 26, joined FCSB at the beginning of the season after coming through the youth ranks at Naturena.

The 26-year-old penned a five-year deal with the Romanian giants, and hasn’t looked back since.

After a difficult first month or so, Ngezana cemented a place in the starting line-up following the injury of former Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli defender Vlad ChiricheÈ™.

With less than a year since he completed the move, Ngezana has now lifted his first-ever league title, as FCSB ended their eight-year trophy drought in the Superliga.

After finishing the regular season with 64 points – nine ahead of second-placed Rapid Bucaresti, FCSB have secured the title with three games to spare in the championship playoffs.

On Saturday, FCSB beat second-placed Farul Constanta 2-1 to wrap up the their first league title since 2014/15.

Ngezana, who featured 90 minutes in the game, has made 30 appearance in the league season, with his side keeping 14 clean sheets in those games.
