Bradley Carnell’s St Louis City showed their grit in the MLS on Saturday evening, as they fought to hold Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The former Kaizer Chiefs full-back, who also had a spell as assistant coach at Orlando Pirates, is in his second season with the MLS franchise.
Playing in Fort Lauderdale, Carnell’s team showed no fear of being the away side, and actually led the game on three occasions, only for Miami to hit back each time.
Messi was on the scoresheet, scoring Miami’s first equaliser, while Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba scored their other goals. Chris Durkin and Indiana Vassilev were St Louis’ goalscorers, while their third score came via a Suarez own goal.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom was an unused sub for Carnell’s team.
Despite the draw, Miami are still top of the Eastern Conference table, while St Louis are currently 11th in the Western Conference.
