Former Mamelodi Sundowns Head of Academy Shawn Bishop has completed a move to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, linking up with former Orlando Pirates assistant Chris O’Loughlin.
Bishop, who has a Masters degree in High Performance with the faculty of Human Movement at the University of Lisbon, had left Sundowns in July 2023 after more than a decade at Masandawana.
He worked at Downs for over 12 years but was replaced by Paulo Cardoso in 2023.
Last season, he worked as Head of Technical Program at Ettifaq, who were coached by Steven Gerrard before parting ways in January.
Bishop himself left Etifaq after the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign and has now joined the exciting project of the newly crowned Belgian champions.
“I’m honoured to share that I’ve joined Royale Union Saint-Gilloise as the Head of Methodology and Coaching,” he stated on social media.
“Union SG club with rich history, but what excites me most is it’s bold vision for the future – commitment to revolutionising youth development and recruitment in Belgian football.”
Former Pirates assistant O’Loughlin has been the Sporting Director of Saint-Gilloise since 2019, helping them to gain promotion in 2020/21 and claim their first Belgian league title in 90 years last campaign.
