Mokwena Shocked By Stone-Throwing Incident

Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena has condemned the stone-throwing towards his players by ASFAR supporters after 2-2 draw.

One of the bigger fixtures in the Botola Pro Inwi had it all last night between 2022/23 league champions ASFAR and Mokwena’s Wydad AC.

The Classico ended in a 2-2 draw after a horrible mistake by Wydad’s goalkeeper Youssef El Motie allowed the hosts to equalise, while The Red Castle were also reduced to 10 men following a red card received by former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

After the final whistle, things got heated when ASFAR supporters threw missiles at Wydad AC players.

“Football is not this (pointing to the stones) and Morocco is not this. This is one of the things that disappoints me, my players had to escape this, and this was thrown to the players,” Mokwena said.

“There’s a rivalry, we are rivals for sure and it’s played in that spirit and it’s sad for me to bring this (stones) here because someone has to do it because someone loses his life.

“I’m told this is normal it cannot be normal that players play against an opponent that is very good and it’s a big club, it’s amazing club in an amazing country that is full of amazing people.

“I have received nothing but love but it makes me said that my players had to escape this. Okay, we are rivals not enemies, the spirit of football should not be around this.”
