Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana and his FCSB side have found out which teams they will be facing in the qualifying rounds for the UEFA Champions League.
FCSB again qualified for the preliminary rounds after securing back-to-back Romanian league titles.
Similar to last year, FCSB would have to go through three qualifying rounds and another playoff round in order to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.
Last season, FCSB beat Virtus from San Marino 11-1 on aggregate in the first round, as well as Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-1 on aggregate in the second round. However, they were undone by Sparta Prague in third qualifying round, losing 4-3 on aggregate and dropped into the UEFA Europa League where they reached the Round of 16 but were knocked out by Olympique Lyon.
This campaign, FCSB’s European journey will start against Andorran champions Inter Club d’Escaldes in the first qualifying round. With FCSB expected to move past their first-round opponents, they would then face the winner between The New Saints from Wales and Macedonian champions KF Shkëndija in the second qualifying round.
