Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena hit out at refereeing mistakes which costs his side six to seven points this season after the Video Assistant Referee ruled out a goal in his side’s goalless draw.

After the match, the South African tactician appeared quite disgruntled in his post-match presser, admitting he himself made several mistakes that led to the draw.
However, he also questioned a decision from VAF to rule out a goal by Zakaria Fathi late in the second half.
“I don’t know how Zakaria’s goal is offside, because I see the replay and I see Mwalimo and I’m not sure what the offside call is about,” he stated.
“I don’t like that decision. It’s the same, I was watching a game last night and I see VAR is calling a red card for Mohammedia I think last night.

“Where VAR is not involved in red card decisions. VAR is involved only whether to call offside or a goal, not whether you have to rescind a yellow card and take out a red card. That’s not the purpose of VAR.
“So, there are a lot of things that, hey look, this whole season I’m sorry but I’m frustrated because we are 6-7 points short because of some refereeing mistakes.
“And I’m sorry, it’s my fault, the team is not good enough sometimes. Me, the coach, I’m responsible the team is good enough and it’s my responsibility as a coach. But I tell you honestly sometimes I feel powerless and that’s how I feel today.”
*Note: VAR does get involved with red card decisions as well.
