Downs Drop Points IN HWBSL

JVW’s Taylor Berkovic put up a Player of the Match performance, as she also scored the goal that denied Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies all three points in their Hollywoodbets Super League match in Soweto over the weekend.

The defending champions had taken the lead through the league’s current top goal scorer Boitumelo Rabale but Berkovic scored a cracker to see the Blue Diamonds take a point and remain in sixth position on the log with 18 points in 10 games.

Sundowns remain at the top of the log but are now tied on 25 points with University of Johannesburg (UJ) who were 2-1 winners over University of Pretoria (Tuks) in the capital city. Ayesha Moosa and Thelma Mahlangu scored quick first half goals as UJ maintained second position in their 11th outing. Sina Mkhwanazi scored the consolation for Tuks but they dropped to fifth spot, equal on 21 points with TS Galaxy Queens who defeated Copperbelt Ladies 1-0 in Limpopo. Both Tuks and the Rockets have played 10 games.

Meanwhile, University of Western Cape (UWC) thrashed TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies 6-1 in the mother city to move into third position on the table with 23 points. Six different players were on the score sheet for the Blues, including Amogelang Motau, Lonathemba Mhlongo and Noxolo Cesane in their 10th match of the season. Sibongile Ntoane scored for TUT and they dropped to eighth place with 15 points also from 10 encounters.
