Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies showed no mercy over Thunderbirds Ladies thrashing them 13-0 in the top vs bottom crucial Hollywoodbets Super League clash in Mdantsane over the weekend.
Rhoda Mulaudzi scored a hat-trick while Boitumelo Rabale, Salome Kekana and Lelona Daweti each grabbed respective braces while Melinda Kgadiete, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Khunjulwa Mali and Regina Mogolola were also on the score sheet to help Sundowns get close to defending their league title.
This emphatic victory sees Jerry Tshabalala’s charges firmly in top spot with 74 points with three matches left to play while the result essentially relegated Thunderbirds who remained at the bottom with just three points from 27 matches. They have also conceded a staggering 119 goals with no win recorded this term.
This result also means the Queens of the Continent have scored more goals than anyone this season 104, 70 more than the second highest scorers University of Western Cape (UWC).
This is also the highest recorded score-line in one game in the history of the women’s league. The previous record was 11-0 by Sundowns against Coal City Wizards and Golden Ladies last season and in 2022 respectively. Ironically, both sides went down in the said campaigns.
Elsewhere, Sibulele Holweni and Tiffany Kortjie scored against Durban Ladies to ensure that UWC stayed in second spot on the log with 60 points in 24 matches. That’s 14 points behind Sundowns and they can only hope that the defending champions drop points in their remaining matches if they are to have any shot at the title. Even if the Blues collect all 18 points on offer, they can only play for 78 points. Durban Ladies on the other hand remained in 13th place on the log with 24 points in 27 matches.
