What Happened With Galaxy Queens In Cape Town?

iDiski Times has reliably learned some of the details of what happened in the Hollywoodbets Super League walk-over between University of Western Cape (UWC) and TS Galaxy Queens on Saturday.

The match was announced on the league’s social media pages as a walkover against the visiting Rockets for not showing up on time for the fixture. The match was initially scheduled for 15:00 at UWC stadium in Cape Town.

However, Galaxy ran into trouble when their flight to Cape Town, which was scheduled to take off at 09:55, and land at 12:05, was delayed by 40 minutes at the OR Tambo International Airport due to what was explained as a technical delay by the airline. A message was communicated on the league’s social media pages at 15:05 that the kick-off of the match had been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

This publication has seen text messages between Galaxy and UWC officials regarding the delay and their request for the match to kick-off later than originally scheduled. iDiski Times has also seen records of how the Mpumalanga-based outfit could not reach the match commissioner who is said to have called a little later, to say Galaxy were given grace to arrive at the stadium by 15:45 for a 16:00 kick-off. It is said that Galaxy met the 15:45 deadline having arrived at 15:40 but were met with resistance by security at the gate and could not get assistance from SAFA or UWC.

Though communication from the league says Galaxy have forfeited three points, there haven’t been updates on the log in terms of the said teams, still having the record of results from the previous week.

iDiski Times reached out to the South African Football Association (SAFA) to get a comment on this matter, and at the time of publishing, we were referred to the statement posted on the league’s social media further saying they will comment if more information emerges.

Meanwhile, there were two other matches this weekend, the goalless draw between JVW and City Lads in Soweto, and the University of Pretoria’s 1-0 win away at Copperbelt Ladies. The Blue Diamonds remained in fourth position on the log with 34 points from 18 games while the Lads are third from bottom with 14 points from 19 matches. There was no movement for either Tuks and Copperbelt as they stayed in seventh place and 12th position with 31 and 17 points respectively, both from 18 outings.
