Defender Bonginkosi Makume has returned to Baroka after a short stint with Upington City.
Makume was seen in full gear training with Baroka, who he left at the end of the 2021/22 season after the Limpopo side was relegated to the Motsepe Foundation.
He joined Maritzburg United at the beginning of last term but again, he suffered the same fate, as the KwaZulu-Natal side were relegated last term.
Including the playoffs, Makume was almost ever-present last term for Maritzburg, featuring in 29 matches in all competitions.
That rewarded him to be part of the Bafana Bafana “B” side that claimed the bronze medal in the COSAFA Cup in Durban last year July.
He was on the move again. After leaving the Team of Choice, he joined Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City, but his stay was short-lived.
Makume’s departure comes as a huge surprise as in nine matches played for Upington, he scored two goals, with a source telling this publication “there is more than what just meets the eye”.
The 28-year-old was given his PSL break by the Limpopo side ahead of the 2018/19 season.
In four seasons with Bakgaga, Makume won the Telkom Knockout (now Carling Black Label Cup) in the 2018/19 season, his debut season, as Wedson Nyirenda’s side beat Orlando Pirates on penalties at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Last year December, Makume was rumored to have married the daughter of Khurishi Mphahlele, the Baroka chairman.
