Bafana Star Close To Major Move In Europe

Bafana Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux is close to landing a major move to Swedish giants Hammarby IF after just six months with IFK Varnamo.

Le Roux, 24, made 16 appearances for Varnamo after his return to Sweden following a tricky spell at Dutch side Volendam, which was disrupted by injuries.

His fine performances in the Allsvenskan didn’t go unnoticed and also earned him a return to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad, where he featured in the wins against Uganda and Congo.

The former SuperSport United midfielder is now close to landing a major move to Hammarby – one of the biggest clubs in Sweden, who will play in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds next season after finishing second in the Allsvenskan last campaign.

“Yes, I can confirm that Hammarby have made an approach to Varnamo about Luke Le Roux,” his agent, Matthew Moore of Centre Circle told iDiski Times.

“This move would allow Luke to play at the highest possible level leading up to the 2026 World Cup, which he hopes to be a part of.

“The player has been an outstanding professional during his time at Varnamo. The club got him on a really good deal in the summer and will make a good profit.

“They have more than enough time to find a replacement, so we fully expect them to not stand in the way.”

Before his move to Volendam, Le Roux featured 99 times for Varberg BoIS after joining the club in February 2020.

He came through the youth ranks at Stellenbosch FC but only made one senior appearance for the Winelands club in 2018.
