Breaking – City & Ertugral Part Ways

Cape Town City have announced they have parted ways with interim coach Muhsin Ertugral.

Ertugral was appointed as Technical Director and interim coach in January, after Eric Tinkler, now at Sekhukhune United, was sacked.

It started off well for the Turkish coach with victories over two of his former teams, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with Ertugral even winning the PSL Coach of the Month in January, as he also picked up a third win later in the month.

But results that followed were disappointing, as City failed to win a game in their next ten games, culminating in a 1-0 loss to Marumo Gallants on Saturday.

The 65-year-old had been left frustrated in recent weeks, as his City’s scoring woes continued, with the team having scored just 13 goals in their 23 league games so far. While at one point they had climbed into the top eight, City are now 13th on the Betway Premiership table, one position lower than when Ertugral took over.

The intention had been for Ertugral to step into the TD role at the end of the season, with a new coach, reportedly Dutchman Andries Ulderink, coming in in July, however, Ertugral’s exit from the club ends that decision.

“After technical discussions, the club and Muhsin Ertugral have agreed mutually to part ways,” the club said on their announcement post.

“The decision comes as a collective in the best interest of the club as we look to end the 24/25 season as strong as possible.

“We thank Muhsin for his professional and earnest contribution.”
