Kaizer Jr Discusses Transfer Targets

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has insisted the club are in the market for a striker, since the converting of chances has been one of the achilles heels under Nasreddine Nabi.

The Tunisian mentor took over ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, and even though Amakhosi are missing a lot of chances in nearly every game, they do have the third-best attack with 16 goals in 13 games – only bettered by both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates with 22 goals.

Kaizer Jr. also pointed out the positive work done by the technical team around Nabi, but insisted they are actively looking to add a new forward in January.

“I don’t want to have any excuses. I don’t want to come now and say ‘this is a tough window, clubs don’t want to release’,” he replied when asked about the club’s priorities and the difficulties of signing players in January.

“Whether it’s January, or June, it’s the same. Clubs always want to have their best players. We must negotiate and identify and close deals. That’s our responsibility.

“So having said that, offensively is definitely an area that since the beginning of the season, we want goals, we wants goals and we don’t want to concede.

“So I think that’s the one position most clubs every year, internationally, locally, are always looking at a competitive advantage. So we’re definitely looking up front, looking at attacking options.

“Like I said, having created all the chances that we’ve had, having played the offensive football that we have had with only signing one attacking player, it bears testament to a lot of good work on the ground, good work by the technical staff.

“It’s quite obvious that patterns of play and how we approach the game is very offensive, and it shows a lot of improvement from last year. The conversion rate has been a challenge, right?

“If we had to convert the chances that we had, would we be sitting here saying we’re looking for strikers and attackers? We probably still would, because as a big club, we want to be competitive.

“So we are looking, and we were trying to see how we can.”
