Talks between Orlando Pirates and Rulani Mokwena have reached an advanced stage, but with some finer details still to be ironed out.
Nine days ago, iDiski Times broke the news of Pirates opening talks with Mokwena for the head coach role after Jose Riveiro’s exit.
The deal was supposed to be concluded as quickly as possible to allow Mokwena to start working on his new team.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach has been at Pirates as assistant coach and later caretaker coach between 2017 and 2019 before a brief stint with Chippa United.
The latest update we have received regarding the talks is that negotiations between Mokwena and Pirates are in advanced stages, with the 37-year old ready to take the head coach job, but finer details remain the issue with his technical team still being discussed.
Mokwena is known to be wanting to bring his own technical team, like he did at Sundowns (step by step) and Wydad AC.
Additional information received is that Mokwena has approached Michael Loftman for the assistant coach position, while Mandla Ncikazi is expected to remain at Pirates as assistant coach, too.
The Buccaneers are running out of time to appoint a head coach before they are set to return to pre-season next week and prepare for their tour in Spain, which will happen in the first week of July.
Pirates are aiming to finalise the deal before they return for medicals next week.
