Bafana Bafana striker Fagrie Lakay has extended his contract at Pyramids FC until June 2025.
Lakay, 27, joined Pyramids in January 2022 from Caps Town City and he hasn’t looked bck since.
The speedy striker hit the ground running in Egypt, as he helped his new side to finish second in the Egyptian Premier League.
He also played a massive role in their journey in the CAF Confederations Cup, reaching the quarter-finals by netting two goals.
Lakay was massive the following season as he helped Pyramids qualify for the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
This campaign, Lakay has scored nine goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, helping them to push for the league title but they lost momentum after their two recent defeats to record champions Al Ahly.
iDiski Times understands that Lakay has signed a new one-year contract with Pyramids FC after his previous one expired at the end of June.
But initially he had an agreement with the side to carry on and finish the current season, but this publication has learnt the Egyptian side then tabled a substantial offer for the former City striker and he agreed to extend his stay.
There have been a few Betway Premiership clubs that were eying Lakay, including Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, but they would have to dig deep to afford the marksman.
Overall, Lakay has scored 29 times and set up nine more in 108 appearances for Pyramids.
