The University of Pretoria Football Club (AmaTuks) have announced the appointment of Michael Loftman as their new head coach.

Two weeks ago, this publication broke the news of Loftman would be joining the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

On Monday, the Tshwane-based club officially confirmed the appointment of Loftman, who holds a strong reputation for player development, tactical excellence, and a commitment to building competitive, high-performing teams.

His appointment reflects the club’s ambition to continue strengthening its football programme, while maintaining its tradition of excellence both on and off the field.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns set-piece coach holds a UEFA Pro Coaching Licence as well as a Masters in Sport Science.

His history include roles as a First Team analyst, development coach and reserve team coach at Orlando Pirates FC, analyst for the Egyptian National Team as well as technical coach at Mamelodi Sundowns .

AmaTuks finished the previous season in 11th place with 35 points after 30 games and that wasn’t enough for Kwanele Kopo to survive, as he departed the club.

Loftman will start pre-season training on Monday, 6 July 2026 ahead of the new season that is set to kick off in August.
