Chippa United are close to signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke on a pre-contract after his surprise Stellenbosch FC exit.
Matsheke, 25, recently left Stellies after an impressive five months during which they won the club’s first major trophy in the Carling Knockout Cup.
The 25-year-old was released by Amakhosi in July after few loan spells to Moroka Swallows and Uthongathi FC before joining Stellies.
The former Chiefs youth development midfielder made 12 appearances for the Cape Winelands side and claimed two Man Of The Match awards, but was let go due to some off-pitch issues.
This publication understands that Chippa are leading the race of landing the defensive midfielder’s signature and aim to hand him a pre-contract to secure him for the next season.
After Matsheke left his former club outside the transfer window, he won’t be able to be registered until the next window opens.
If the Chilli Boys or any other club manage to get his signature it will be for the 2024/25 season.
