Mohafe Honest About Appollis’ Psyche After Failed Transfer

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe says Oswin Appollis has not been too affected by his failed transfer away from the club and has a responsibility to continue performing.

Appollis has enjoyed a 180-degree turn in his career that was seemingly spiralling out of control when he was released by SuperSport United and without a club for a couple of months.

The former Ajax Cape Town teenage sensation joined second-tier side Pretoria Callies which led him to Rise and Shine where his impressive performances earned him a place in the national team that won bronze at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Esperance Sportive de Tunis, MC Alger, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are all said to have made moves but failed to lure him away from the club, which many believed would have affected his mindset to continue at the club.

“I think it hasn’t affected him that much psychologically because he knows he has a contract at home with Polokwane City where he has to provide and produce good performances every game he plays,” he said.

“For him to keep those guys there [interested] and insisting, or persisting on him, he should give the good performances. For him to remain in the national team, he still has to give good performances for the club, that is Polokwane City.”

The 23-year-old midfielder has scored seven goals with five assists in 33 games for Polokwane since his arrival from Callies in July 2023.
