New Downs Signing Sends Message To Former Club

New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Matias Esquivel has bid farewell to his former team Club Atlético Lanús, as he edges closer to complete his move to the PSL giants.

Masandawana have agreed to sign the midfielder in a deal worth $2.5-million (R46.7m), as reported by iDiski Times two weeks ago.

The Argentine had agreed personal terms last month, after a standout campaign with the Primera División outfit as they finished fourth in the 28-team division.

Esquivel is likely to arrive in South Africa this week after being pictured at the airport and will join the DStv Premiership leaders’ mid-season pre-season preparations during the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old also sent a message to his former club, ahead of his arrival in South Africa.

“Thanks for all these beautiful years [I] lived with you! Since 8 years in the club!!! Thank you eternally,” he wrote on Instagram.

Esquivel will become the latest foreign signing, adding to Marcelo Allende, Ribeiro Costa, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Júnior Mendieta and Abubeker Nasir, with the club trying to solve their foreign quota conundrum.

Meanwhile, Divine Lunga will also be registered as a South African and form part of the Masandawana first-team.
