Cape Town City youth product Jaedin Rhodes has completed his transfer to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried.
As first reported by iDiski Times, Rhodes was unveiled by Ried on Friday after penning a two-year deal with an option for another year.
The Cape Town-born tricky winger came through City’s youth academy and has been one of the outstanding players in the Citizens’ push for promotion to the Betway Premiership, which fell short in the playoffs.
At Ried, he pretty much replaces Antonio van Wyk, who completed a blockbuster move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
“After the departure of Antonio van Wyk, we were looking for a player who covers Toni’s strengths and is also a little more determined towards the opponent’s goal,” Wolfgang Fiala, Managing Director at Ried stated.
“Since we have good experiences with South African players, the market was of course interesting for us.
“Jaedin is a direct player who is very good at pressing and has a good feeling for the depth. We are very pleased that he chose SV Oberbank Ried, although he had some other offers.
Rhodes himself confirmed that Austrian football is the perfect next step in his career.
“I chose SV Oberbank Ried because it has always been my dream to play in Europe. And I know that Ried is now the perfect club for me,” he told his new club.
“My goal is to learn as much as possible and write a piece of history with the club. Austrian football is fast-paced and very body-oriented.
“My strengths lie in pressing and in the switching game – that’s exactly what makes Austrian football.”
