Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena says he would consider coaching Orlando Pirates should the club really be interested in him.
Mokwena, 38, is currently without a club after parting ways with Wydad after the conclusion of the Botola Pro Inwi, where Wydad finished in third place to return to CAF football.
Mokwena, who improved the Moroccan giants from sixth to third place, has been linked with the vacant coaching role at Pirates – having coached the club before, but admitted he doesn’t know anything about those rumours.
“I don’t know, I’ve just arrived back in the country… To be honest I don’t know [about Pirates],” he said on Soccer Africa.
However, when asked whether he’d consider a return to Mayfair, Mokwena admitted that he would be open to joining the Buccaneers for a second time.
“Of course I would consider it. It’s a big club and it’s still got people who are very close to me and to my heart,” he added.
“I’m very, very fond of Doctor Khoza, very fond and he will always have a special place in my heart.
“I’ve been fortunate enough that as a coach I’ve learnt a lot from three of the best football leaders on the continent – Dr. Khoza number one, for sure, general knowledge, geography, football, humanity, everything, religion…
“And that changes your life completely. Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the things that he thought me… The third is the president of Wydad, Hicham Ait Menna an unbelievable human being, I really enjoyed my time working for the president of Wydad.”
