Siwelele FC head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has confirmed that former Kaizer Chiefs wing-back Happy Mashiane is training with the club while still a free agent. He says the player has impressed on the pitch but that some off-field matters must be settled before a deal can happen.
Mashiane began training with Siwelele during the recent FIFA break and has been part of the squad’s sessions for a few weeks. Mosoetsa was positive about what he has seen so far, but was clear that a signing is not yet certain.
“We have seen him for a few weeks. He started during the FIFA break, so he has been training very well. It’s just a couple of things that need to be sorted out administratively, and then we will take it from there,” Mosoetsa said.
The coach spoke highly of Mashiane’s quality and background, pointing to his experience in the Betway Premiership and his early rise at Chiefs.
“We cannot deny the fact that he is a very good player. He’s got PSL experience, he played for Kaizer Chiefs while he was still young, he has much to offer, but from the technical side,” Mosoetsa explained.
Mosoetsa also suggested that the technical staff believe Mashiane could help the team as it looks to climb out of a difficult spell.
“We see something we will definitely need to take this team out of the woods, but it also lies in what happens behind the scenes in terms of management and his agent sorting out any outstanding issues,” he added.
For Siwelele, the possible addition of an experienced wide player on a free transfer could be a useful boost. For Mashiane, a deal would offer a chance to rebuild his career at a top-flight club.
