Stellenbosch FC have moved a step closer to lure Ashley du Preez back to the club from Kaizer Chiefs.
Stellies have made no secret of their desire to resign their former talisman – who alongside Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams are among their finest products since breaking into the top-flight.
Du Preez became a key figure in then-head coach Steve Barker’s attack before Chiefs came calling four years ago in a reported R10m transfer for his services.
But it’s been a stint marked by inconsistency despite his obvious talent and blistering pace, and the player fell completely out of favour within the club’s technical team last season.
Stellies made their interest known shortly after the conclusion of last season, but any sort of deal was cast in doubt due to the two parties being far away in terms of personal terms.
However, sources within the Cape Winelands club have confirmed personal terms have been agreed – and it’s now down to the club-to-club agreement to get the prospective deal over the line.
While the deal has been mooted as part of a potential swap deal with rising talent Langelihle Phili – should the move for the winger not materialise, the club will need to negotiate a transfer fee for the mercurial forward.
The 28-year-old, should he complete the move back to the Cape Winelands will be aiming for a similar career revivable as Rayners enjoyed after his stint in Gauteng.
Du Preez has also not travelled with the rest of the Amakhosi squad for their pre-season tour of Europe.
