Mamelodi Sundowns have pulled out of the transfer of Lars Veldwijk, who had been offered a short-term deal with the DStv Premiership champions.
The 32-year-old South Africa international has been available as a free agent since parting ways with FC Suwon in the K-League, where he was one of the most proflic strikers in South Korea.
Sundowns made a surprise approach for the towering hitman who would have been an addition to their attack without affecting their foreign quota dilemma – having signed Matías Esquivel, who is set to take the spot of Ethiopia forward Abubeker Nasir.
iDiski Times understands the club have now opted against signing Veldwijk with the technical team divided on his potential role in the squad, despite it potentially being a short-term move for the seven-time capped Bafana Bafana striker.
Sundowns look set to make one more addition to their squad before the window shuts after the arrival of the Argentine and right-back Zuko Mdunyelwa, who joined from Chippa United.
