Mamelodi Sundowns are close to sealing a deal for Cape Town City defender Keanu Cupido in a deal in excess of R10 million.
Cupido, 27, has been a long-term target for Sundowns but his asking price and competition for him at Sundowns kept the move quiet over the last season.
It was made clear at the start of the season that Cupido would be targeted for the mid-season or 2026 July window but talks have accelerated after the exit of Rushine de Reuck on loan to Maccabi Petah Tikva.
Cupido was seen as an indispensable part of the City line-up but the return of Nathan Idumba Fasika during his injury, which is close to returning from has changed their stance.
Sources within City confirmed Cupido expressed his desire to return to Gauteng after eight years outside, having spent one season in France with AC Ajaccio before joining City in 2018 and establishing himself as one of the leading defenders in the league.

City had initially set an asking price of around R15-million but the two parties have now agreed on a transfer that could reach up to R11-million for his services.
The player is expected to report to Chloorkop imminently ahead of his official announcement.
