Cape Town City are seemingly preparing for life without their top scorer over the last two seasons, with Khanyisa Mayo set to make a big move.
Mayo was a notable absentee as iDiski Times‘ Rob Delport visited City’s training on Wednesday where they comfortably beat Hanover Park in their final training game of the pre-season.
The 25-year-old striker, who has serially been linked with moves to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, is believed to be on a plane to North Africa.
Mayo has scored 29 goals for City in all competitions with 22 coming in the Premiership over the past two seasons. He shared the Golden Boot award with Peter Shalulile in 2022/23.
Mayo was not the only absentee, with Eric Tinkler and captain Thami Mkhize in Johannesburg for the MTN8 launch, where the coach confirmed Mayo’s absence and hinted at his imminent transfer.
“Yes, the club will announce that shortly,” Tinkler told media when asked about Mayo’s absence.

But while Mayo’s absence will be felt, City’s squad look in good shape as the new season approaches.
New signings, including Haashim Domingo, Fortune Makaringe, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Kayden Francis, Elson Sithole and Carlinhos, were blending in well. At the same time, young promoted players like Gabi Amato and Emile Witbooi looked to be adapting to senior football.
City are also still waiting for the arrival of former Maritzburg United striker Amadou Soukouna, who is expected next month and will complete the revamp of the squad.
At the end of last season City parted ways with Thabiso Kutumela (loan), Marc Van Heerden, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Jo Paciencia, Bongani Mpandle and Khaya Leshabela.
