Hollywoodbets Super League Wrap

There were no draws in the opening week of the new Hollywoodbets Super League as 14 sides took to the field this weekend.

JVW Girls claimed first spot on the table as they thumped bottom-placed Richmond United 10-2 at the Wits stadium. Gabriela Salgado and last season’s joint top scorer Nompumelelo Nyandeni grabbed hat-tricks in that encounter.

Rookies Vasco Da Gama and City Lads suffered 2-1 defeats to Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and University of Western Cape respectively. Vasco lie in 13th  place while Lads are in 10th place.

Celtic are in third spot, one above defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns who were made to sweat for their victory by MaIndies Ladies in Giyani stadium. Miche Minnies scored on debut while Boitumelo Rabale converted a penalty as Sundowns defeated the Limpopo side 2-1 in front of their home crowd. MaIndies’ consolation goal was a beautiful free kick from range by Valeria Packry.

In another game that also played in Giyani, First Touch Academy put five goals through Tsumani Queens without a reply to occupy second position on the log.

Elsewhere University of Johannesburg (UJ) recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Coal City Wizards in Mpumalanga while Thunderbirds Ladies were 2-1 winners over Golden Ladies.
