UWC Keep CAFWCL Hopes Alive With Vital Win

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) kept their CAF Women’s Champions League qualification hopes alive with a 3-0 win over FC Ongos on Saturday afternoon.

After a 1-0 opening day loss to Green Buffaloes (Zambia), and Herentals Queens (Zimbabwe) securing two wins, UWC needed a victory to keep their hopes alive for a place in the semi-final going into their final Group A game against Herentals on Monday.

The win, in which Sibulele Holweni, Fikile Magama, Bongela Gamede found the net, with the first two coming in the first half, ended the hopes for the Namibians.

With two groups of four, the top two sides advance to the semi-finals and only the winner of the overall tournament in Blantyre, Malawi, will book their place in the Champions League this season.
