Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has remained tightlipped about the administrative oversight that ruled Faiz Abrahams out of the clash with Stellenbosch FC, saying his focus is now on the club’s upcoming CAF assignment in Zambia.
Abrahams, who is on loan at Chiefs from Stellenbosch, was due to start against his parent club on Tuesday. The technical team had prepared all week with him in the plan, confirmed by assistant Dillon Sheppard.

Stellenbosch then pointed out that he was ineligible to face them, and the matter was raised before the two sides met this week. Chiefs were forced into a late change, and Mduduzi Shabalala took his place.
Da Cruz was reluctant to revisit the episode. Asked about the oversight, he kept the conversation on the road ahead.
“What happened on Tuesday happened. For me now, the most important thing is to be focused on CAF and Red Arrows for our travel to Zambia,” Da Cruz said.
Losing a player who had been central to a week of preparation is never ideal, particularly at short notice. Da Cruz did not say how the oversight arose or who was responsible, and he gave no indication of whether Abrahams will be available for the continental trip.
With the Zambia fixture next, Chiefs will want to put the episode behind them quickly. The club’s attention now turns to the Red Arrows tie and to making sure its administrative work is in order.
