McCarthy Wants More Quality Players

AmaZulu FC head coach Benni McCarthy was asked if he will boost his squad ahead of the CAF Champions League group stages.

Usuthu are in group stages of top Africa’s competition after beating TP Mazembe on the away goal rule, the first leg had ended goalless in Durban before they went to play 1-1 draw in Congo.

Despite being proud of his current payers and their massive achievement in Congo, McCarthy also admitted that he is willing to add more quality to his squad.

“I think the best thing about the group stages coming, it gives you a great opportunity to look at what you have from now until the Christmas break, and then you can analyze where you can add a bit,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFMSportOn.

“So it will give us a good indication where we are as a team, come December, Christmas time, and we would like to be how far we are of getting and assembling the team to get ready to go and compete in both domestic league and the CAF Champions League.

“But yeah, like I said, for me, there’s always a room for a quality player or two you know, so bringing a really good player that you can add in the team, I’m one for never to say no.

“Because I know it will only give the team the opportunity to do better, to achieve what we want to achieve and to compete on a high level.”

AmaZulu will find out about their CAF Champions League group stage opponents in December. For now, they return to domestic football and host Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 3 November in the DStv Premiership.
