A late Mpho Makola free-kick sealed a dramatic comeback win for 10-man Cape Town City over Swallows, while there were three earlier DStv Premiership clashes on Saturday.
Cape Town City 2-1 Swallows FC
City looked to be staring at defeat after a strong start from the Dube Birds at Cape Town Stadium with Monnapule Saleng finding the opener in the 19th minute after profiting from a poor pass from Thato Mokeke.
The on-loan Orlando Pirates winger showed his composure to score his first-ever goal in the South African top-flight as he smashed the ball past Hugo Marques.
Just before the break, Abbubaker Mobara received a straight red card for bringing down Ruzaigh Gamildien as he looked to be through in on goal and the resulting free-kick went inches from making it 2-0 as he hit the post.
But the second-half saw the Citizens come out with renewed vigour as Nathan Idumba Fasika found the equaliser in just after the hour mark before Makola’s inch-perfect free-kick eight minutes from time secured three points.
Sekhukhune United 0-0 SuperSport United
It was a goalless draw at the Emirate Airline Park in a result that favoured neither side as Sekhukhune remained in sixth place while SuperSport are in eighth after their fifth draw in 16 games.
Stellenbosch FC 1-0 Baroka FC
It was a hard pill to Swallow for the Limpopo based side who created several chances at the Danie Craven Stadium against Stellies – who gratefully accepted the smash and grap result.
Kganyane Letsoenyo’s stunning 80th-minute strike for the home side proved the difference as they moved back into second place in the league while Baroka are in serious danger of the drop as they head to the mid-season break.
Bakgaga trail 15th placed Chippa United by two points having played one game more than the Chilli Boys.
Golden Arrows 1-1 TS Galaxy
Wayde Lekay scored his fourth goal in as many games for the Rockets as he opened the scoring in the 52nd minute at the Princess Magogo Stadium this afternoon.
But his effort wasn’t enough to secure three points for Sead Ramovic’s side on the day with Sbonelo Cele equalising three minutes later.
