Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has offered a hint at what business the club may do in the January transfer window.
Chiefs ended 2021 in dramatic fashion following the Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena Village which saw them fail to honour two fixtures – which the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has since rejected postponement.
Amakhosi confirmed this week that they will appeal the decision and completed their mid-way mark of the DStv Premiership in fourth place after the 2-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Wednesday.
Speaking after the win Zwane admitted they may seek firepower up front, having only scored 21 goals in their 16 games thus far while denying they need defensive reinforcement after United posed several problems from set-pieces.
“I think it was the quality of the delivery from Keagan and yes they could have easily punished us but they let us off the hook. We’ve got tall players in our defence, Daniel Cardoso, Siya Ngezana, Rama Mphahlele – even when Tower is not there, Nange is tall. We have bigger boys but it was the quality of the deliveries,” Zwane told the media.
“Going forward I don’t think as a team we need… I think we are covered because you could see Njabulo Ngcobo played, I think he did quite well, not bad. Considering he was out for some time. It was key for him to get a run and he did well before cramping when we had to substitute him.
“I’m not worried about dead ball situations, it’s actually one of our strong points, that’s why we have good players who can defend and attack set-plays. So if we had to beef up as a club, we’re looking for a striker maybe.
“But at the moment we’re looking because we have a lot of players, maybe we can go to the development because we have a lot of promising boys.”
