Four of the 10 youngest players in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership thus far come from Stellenbosch FC while the youngest player who made his debut this season was 17 years 09 months 17 days old.
Stellies have enjoyed a memorable season so far as they sit in third place at the mid-way mark of the campaign with only Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of them.
This feat seems all the more impressive as Steve Barker has managed one of the most youthful squads in the South African top-flight with the likes of Jayden Adams, Ally Msengi, Antonio van Wyk and Ibraheem Jabaar all featuring for the club and under the age of 21.
Jabaar, a Nigeria youth international is arguably one of the most talented players on the continent at present and was secured on a new long-term deal after reported interest from Mamelodi Sundowns.
He featured for the club at 18 years 09 months and 28 days this season but he wasn’t the youngest in the league as Samkelo Dlamuka received his first chance at 17 years old after being snapped up by Maritzburg United from Golden Arrows.
