Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly dropped points for a first time in the Egyptian Premier League this season.
The Club of the Century were held to a 1-1 draw by promoted side Future on Sunday evening.
Mohamed Sherif gave Al Ahly an early lead in the second minute following a brilliant assist by Ahmed Abdel-Kader.
Future almost equalised in the 25 minute but a shot from the edge of the box only hit the inside of the post before bouncing away.
Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy could’ve been sent off in the 40th minute for a foul outside the box but got somewhat lucky his tackle was close to the left side of the pitch and not central.
Future found the equaliser in the 57th minute when Karim Nedved was played free inside the box and levelled matters.
Mosimane brought fresh legs on in the 67th minute with Taher Mohamed and Ali Maaloul replacing Ahmed Koka and Ahmed Radwan.
In the 75th minute Hussein El Shahat replaced Mohamed Magdi Afsha, but chances remained rare on both sides.
Future almost took the three points following a counter in the 93rd minute but their shot went past the post.
The scoreline stayed at 1-1, meaning Ahly’s 100% win record at the start of the campaign has ended.
South African winger Percy Tau played the full 90 minutes but was unable to change the outcome of the game.
Mosimane’s men, though, remain at the top of the log with 19 points from seven games – as many as defending league champions Zamalek, who have played one more game.
