SA Star Makes History With Latest Move

Darren Smith has become the first player from South Africa to sign for a Moroccan club after joining FAR Rabat.

The former Ajax Cape Town and AmaZulu forward spent the last two seasons in Europe, winning top scorer awards with Ekenäs IF and Honka respectively.

After links with moves to Ukraine and Slovakia over the past two months, iDiski Times can confirm the player rejected offers as he looked to secure a financial deal befitting of his achievements since leaving South Africa.

And he’s now secured an exciting move to the Botola Pro, as the first-ever South African to ply his trade in the North African nation.

Smith scored 31 goals and registered nine assists in 61 games across all competitions over the last two seasons in Europe while also featuring in the newly formed UEFA Conference League with Honka.

Rabat are currently coached by Sven Vandenbroeck and finished third in the league last season behind the Casablanca giants Wydad and Raja.
