Zungu Sets Record Straight On Kambole Swap Rumours

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has come out and refuted rumours that Lazarous Kambole was one of the two players offered in a swap deal for Siyethemba Sithele.

The attacking midfielder is understood to have agreed to a pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs but the Glamour Boys also attempted to sign him in January already.

Both clubs, though, could not agree to a deal because AmaZulu seemingly wanted cash or better value for their player, while Amakhosi tried to offer two of their players.

Zungu has reiterated that the players his club were offered did not fit their profile, even though he regrets calling them Chiefs’ “rejects”.

“When in the middle of those discussions we’re offered two players, who are not in our list of players that Benni [McCarthy] wants, those players never fitted,” he told Robert Marawa on the Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“Other teams know, we’ve enquired about their players and they’ve told us ‘no’, so they are cold to our players, they are not for sale, then we move on.

“But when we are [offered] two players who haven’t really played consistently in the team and therefor they are deemed surplus to requirements and they are being disposed to us – you can use any word you want.

“To describe them as rejects quite frankly is regrettable because I’d never want anybody described as such, but they were surplus to the other team’s needs.

“It’s like saying ‘let me take your wife, I’ll give you my wives’.”

Zungu also insisted that Kambole was not one of the players offered by Chiefs, despite reports in local media claiming otherwise.

“Just to show how terrible media speculation can be, Kambole is not that player. I don’t know how they got it so wrong, he’s not that player,” he added.

“I’m mentioning it here because I don’t want anyone to speculate that a name like that could’ve been disclosed by AmaZulu by stealth, no I will not disclose the names, because I’m not in game of undermining the standing of individual professionals.

“But it’s certainly not Kambole.”
