Orlando Pirates winger Kamogelo Sebelebele has expressed huge disappointment following a share of the spoils in the Soweto Derby against rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
The two Soweto giants played to a 1-1 stalemate in what was an entertaining but scrappy 185th derby spectacle on Sunday afternoon.
This was also the first league stalemate between the two sides since the 2018/19 campaign, as Amakhosi ended the Buccaneers’ five-match winning streak in the fixture.
It also dented their title challenge hopes which would’ve seen them open up the gap at the top with Mamelodi Sundowns also having been held to a 0-0 draw by Richards Bay.
The Glamour Boys were first to get the breakthrough in the 62nd minute following an excellent run from Wandile Duba who laid off an assist to Pule Mmodi who fired in to make it 1-0.
Pirates had to wait till the 75th minute to level matters through Sebelebele who pounced on a loose ball after Brandon Petersen had parried Deon Hotto’s attempt into his path.
Sebelebele admitted that the draw did not stand them in good stead as they look to end their league trophy drought since the 2011/12 campaign.
“Eish, today’s game did not go as we had expected or how we wanted it to be,” he told OP TV.
“The opponent [Chiefs] came to defend and they were bossing us, and unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted.
“A draw for us is a defeat cause we’re chasing for the league. But we’ll push until the end – last game of the league.”
