SABC has announced a new partnership with CAF, which will see the national broadcaster show over 400 games of the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup, CAF Super Cup, CAF Women’s AFCON and CAF Women’s Champions League live.
SABC Sport has signed a two-year rights deal with CAF, with games to be shown live on the SABC Sport channel on DTT, which was launched in May 2021.
The CAF Champions League kicks off on 11 February 2022, with Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu representing Mzansi in the competition and key fixtures to be broadcasted on SABC Sport.
In addition, South African football fans will also be able to watch games of 10-times champions Al Ahly, who are coached by Pitso Mosimane. But even games of the African giants such as Zamalek (5-times champions), TP Mazembe (5-times champions) and Raja Casablanca (3-times champions) will be shown on SABC Sport.
Meanwhile, games of the CAF Confederations Cup, which kicks off on 13 February 2022 and includes South African giants, Orlando Pirates, will also be broadcast live.
In addition, SABC Sport will also show the CAF Super Cup, CAF Women’s AFCON and CAF Women’s Champions League.
Overall, the new rights deal gives SAC Sport viewers access to over 400 fixtures and African football content that spans over 2 years. SABC Radio stations have come on board and will give listeners access to live commentary and live reports.
Gary Rathbone, Head of SABC Sport, confirmed on Twitter that the games of South African football teams will also be shown on SABC1.
