Zwane Explains Many Changes After Baxter Reign

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane explained why he has made so many changes after Stuart Baxter has left the club.

Zwane mixed up the starting XI after Baxter’s departure from Naturena, making five changed to the team that played Stellenbosch FC in comparison to Baxter’s last game against SuperSport United.

He was now asked why he is making more changes to the team in comparison to less changes when he took over from Gavin Hunt at the end of last season.

“I was close to Coach Hunt, I was close to Stuart and unfortunately both coaches’ results were not coming and the team decided for that moment that I should help,” Zwane told the media.

“According to me, I think it’s not because of the coach what they wanted to do and what I didn’t want them to do.

“It’s when you see that we’ve got players and we’ve been trying to do this, we all agreed this is how but things are not happening and surely that situation obviously needs a change and we tried everything to help the players.

“We tried everything to make sure that we grind the results, get positive results both with coach Hunt and Coach Stuart but they were not coming and the performance was obviously also a little bit wider factor – individual performance and collectively as a team.

“What we doing right now is not about that we are changing completely but we feel we are taking at the time where games are coming thick and fast and we have games back-to-back and these other players have been playing.

“We’ve got players who played nearly 80% of the games, then there’s others that were not playing regularly, so we feel that they deserve also a fair share to showcase their talent to feel they are part of the team and see what they’ve got because we brought them here to play.

“Not because of maybe coach Stuart was not playing them, we feel let’s try to get everyone on board, let’s try and see where do we lack in terms of player personnel.

“Going forward it will be easier to identify when we want to beef up the squad, because it’ll be pointless to beef up when other players were not given the opportunity to play.”

Amakhosi are set to keep their fight for CAF Champions League spot when they met Cape Town City on Saturday.
