Summerfield Dynamos, who have already wrapped up the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe championship, are delighted to be playing Black Eagles in the Nedbank Cup last sixteen, and coach Clinton Larsen sees a lot of benefits in playing a potential promotion rival.
Larsen’s Dynamos knocked out GladAfrica Championship side Uthongathi in the round of 32, and can book a place in the quarter-finals if they can overcome their ABC rivals from the North West. Eagles progressed via another all ABC clash, where they beat Mpumalanga’s Sivutsa FC.
Eagles are top of their stream in their regional league, and there is a good chance they could be joining Dynamos at the national playoffs, and Larsen says playing them now could be beneficial.
iDiski Times asked the former Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic coach at the pre-match press conference about the fortunate scenario, that sees them meet a fellow ABC side who could at the playoffs, and to get a proper look at them beforehand.
Not only will he get to see a potential playoffs rival, but the longer they remain in the Nedbank Cup, the fresher his team will be for competitive football.
“I think it is definitely twofold,” Larsen responded.
“On one part, we get a look at a team that is probably is going to be at the playoffs, so it could be a future opponent of ours very, very soon at the national playoffs.
“And at the same time, ja, going further in the cup, a few more weeks of activity, and it just keeps you it keeps you on top of things in terms of having the boys match-ready when we get to the national playoffs.
“So it’s a win-win for us, in terms of seeing our future opponents, and also keeping the boys active, definitely.”
