Former AmaZulu striker Lehlohonolo Majoro has given an update on his club search and says he has an insatiable appetite to join the 100-goals in the PSL club.
Majoro, who is aware that he is on 91 goals, was released by AmaZulu after scoring just one goal this past season, having joined them ahead of the 2019/20 campaign from Bidvest Wits.
At Usuthu is where everything started for Majoro in the 2010/11 season, when he was signed by Manqoba Mngqithi, who now works at Mamelodi Sundowns as senior coach .
He scored 14 league goals in 27 league appearances in his breakthrough season before Vladimir Vermezovic came knocking to sign him for Kaizer Chiefs at the end of that season.
He won the 2012/13 Premier Soccer League trophy with Chiefs, but left the club to join their bitter rivals in 2014. After one-and-a-half seasons with the Buccaneers, he joined Cape Town City, and later Bidvest Wits before returning to AmaZulu in 2019.
However, they now decided not to renew his contract, and the 36-year-old is currently a free agent, but has no intention of calling it a quit.
“It is still work in progress,” said Majoro when asked about his future.
“You know this time teams take time because they have to revisit their current squad to know what kind of players they have, which position to fill up.
“Hopefully, I’ll be called by one of the teams to come and assist them with goals.”
One thing is clear though, Majoro, at the age of 36, still wants to play football and reach the century of goals in his career.
“I really want to reach 100 goals because I’m left with nine goals,” he added.
“It is something that is driving me even more than anything.
“But scoring goals is a very challenging thing and I believe as an individual when you commit yourself, you commit yourself to the goals that you commit yourself, the goals that you give yourself, you can achieve that.
“You have seen Peter Shalulile scoring over 20 goals, it is possible when you have the support structure that feeds you and gives you that opportunity to score goals, then it is every striker’s dream to have such service.”
Strikers who have scored over 100 goals in the PSL are Siyabonga Nomvethe, Mabhuti Khenyeza, Collins Mbesuma, Daniel Mudau, Manuel Tico Tico Bucuane and Bradley Grobler.
Majoro also explained that he is training hard by himself to stay in shape but admitted it is not easy to always train in his own.
“It is frustrating at times [to train alone] because you are not waking up training with the team,” he stated
“But motivating yourself each and every time, to wake up in the morning, to hit the gym, it shows discipline on your own, unlike waking up going to the training with the group where it is mandatory.
“Discipline begins with you – taking initiative to go train by yourself to better yourself so that when you train with the group it is easier.”
